Living close to the ocean has more advantages than just
being near the beach.The Atlantic
Seafood Market provides the locals a place where they can purchase the freshest
seafood around. The Atlantic Seafood Market, on Atlantic Avenue, specializes in the best seafood
Mayport has to offer. However, there is
much more to this seafood market than just fish.
Brett Carlson, owner and operator, is a life long resident
of the Beaches. With nearly 15 years in
the restaurant business and another 6 years working in Mayport as a fish
wholesaler; Carlson knows a thing or two about seafood. He now puts his vast knowledge of seafood and
years of experience to making his market a success.
Carlson took on the business in March of this year.It has been his goal to create a true market
atmosphere where customers can purchase fish and seafood delivered fresh off
the boat. Not in the mood to prepare your
own fish; Atlantic Seafood Market offers a menu of fresh seafood entrees and
sides. All dishes are prepared on site
and available to take home hot and fresh. Don’t walk out with out an order of their phenomenal
hush puppies and coleslaw. Both are a
must addition for any seafood dinner.
Though Carlson is licensed for wholesale, the Atlantic
Seafood Market is open to the public.Ninety-five percent of its sales are retail driven.“I have been in the business for a long
time,” says Carlson. “I’ve made numerous connections and I have different
avenues to get what others in the industry may not be able to get.”
When in season, local favorites like grouper and snapper are
available.Right now, it’s the live
crabs and oysters that are getting most of the attention. Ifa
customer is looking for seafood not local to the area; the market can special
order anything from lobsters to salmon.
The Atlantic Seafood Market’s trained chef, Scott Sciullo,
is experienced with seafood and holds all of his specialties to the “highest
standard of quality,” said Carlson. “We are also available for parties and
caterings.”
The staff is also available to assist customers with any
questions they may have about fish and its preparation. “We can walk anyone
through cooking any seafood,” he said. “From the most simple of dishes to the
most extravagant, we can help you.”
“Number one, we are the cleanest market in town,” he says.
Maintaining the highest quality is our main priority, so we take it very
seriously. You never know what you’re going to see in some of the other places
and we’re not like that here.”
“Second,” he goes on to say. “It’s a good atmosphere here
that makes us better, we love what we do. We’re always smiling, joking and
having a good time, and I think the customers like coming here because of it.”
